Five Hustlin’ Rebels named to MW Weekly Honors so far this season

The Hustlin’ Rebels have had at least one player named to the Mountain West (MW) weekly awards in 4-of-5 weeks since the 2022 season kicked off. 

The newest award being named to Braden Murphy, who was MW Freshman of the Week after UNLV Baseball sweeped Air Force this past weekend to continue their perfect record in conference play.

Week Two: February 28

After a road trip sweep the last weekend of February, freshman shortstop Gianni Horvat was the first Hustlin’ Rebel to be named in this season’s MW awards. Horvat was named Freshman of the week after he batted .571 during the Rebels perfect 3-0 weekend against Hawai’i and San Diego. 

Horvat finished the weekend with four hits and one run scored on offense. On defense, he finished with a 1.000 fielding percentage after commiting no errors.

Week Three: March 8

In week 3 of the weekly awards, Edarian Williams was the second Rebel to win a weekly award after being named MW Player of the Week after the Rebels won their series over the Cal Poly Mustangs 2-1. 

The second baseman batted .428 over the weekend with six hits, six RBIs and four runs. On defense, Williams had 12 putouts and eight assists. 

Week Four: March 14

In week 4, Conner Woods made two appearances on the mound for UNLV posting a 0 ERA while registering his first win of the season against San Diego State. 

Woods, the relief pitcher, pitched four shutout innings and struck out four San Diego State batters during his time on the mound. 

In the same weekly awards, UNLV’s Santino Panaro was named Freshman of the Week after helping UNLV to a 3-2 record during week four. 

Panaro had two RBIs, one hit and two runs scored after starting one game and appearing in the other three. 

Week Five: March 21

This past week, Braden Murphy was named Freshman of the Week after starting all three games during UNLV’s series sweep over the Air Force Falcons.

Murphy batted .364 with four hits, four RBI’s and four runs scored including hitting his first home run in the scarlet and gray on the third day of the series.
