UNLV defends home court against New Hampshire

The UNLV Women’s basketball team defeated the New Hampshire Wildcats 93-30 at the Cox Pavilion to make its record 4-0 on Nov. 18.

Desi-Rae Young and Kiara Jackson led the team in scoring. Young contributed 17 points with one assist and eight rebounds. Jackson put up a total of 18 points with five rebounds and three assists.

After Clara Gomez made a shot to give New Hampshire a 2-0 lead Young put the Rebels on the board making two consecutive shots.

Alyssa Brown made two free throws and Ashley Scoggin made a jump shot following Young’s shot to make the score 8-2.

Nneka Obiazor contributed to the strong start by putting up five points in the quarter off of a jump shot and a 3-pointer. 

The Lady Rebels kept up the momentum, with Jackson putting up a 2-pointer before Brown closed out the first half of the game with a layup, extending the Rebels’ lead at the end of the first quarter to 21-11.

The second quarter started with Obiazor shooting a 3-pointer off a fastbreak. 

Kiara Jackson started a 21-point run for the Lady Rebels after shooting her first 3-pointer of the run. Jackson contributed two 3-pointers and a 2-point jump shot.

Jasmyn Lott added to the run with a layup she scored off of a turnover and UNLV surpassed 30 points with a shot made by Brown. 

Obiazor capped off the 21-point run with a layup and it made the score 47-13.

McKinna Brackens closed the second quarter with a layup, the first half ending with the Lady Rebels up 49-15.

The beginning of the second started with Alyssa Durazo-Frescas making a 3-pointer that was assisted by Jackson.

The Lady Rebels lead was extended to 40 points with a 3-pointer made by Scoggin.

The Lady Rebels’ closed out the third ahead of the Wolverines 73-24.

Once again, Durazo-Frescas started off the quarter with a 3-pointer from the wing. That was immediately followed up by a 3-pointer by Jackson. 

The Lady Rebels cruised to victory against the Wolverines winning the game 93-30. 

UNLV Lady Rebels head coach Lindy La Rocque shared her thoughts on her team and their performance against the Wildcats after the game.

The Lady Rebels travel to San Diego to play in The Dana at Mission Beach Holiday Classic. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. on Nov. 24.
