Sports Briefs: Stole gets extension, Lady Rebels announce event

UNLV baseball head coach Stan Stolte signed a four-year contract extension, the school announced on Wednesday.

Stolte was the 2022 Mountain West Coach of the year award after leading the Hustin’ Rebels to a 36-22 overall record and 21-9 Mountain West Conference record.

In the 2022 campaign, the Hustlin’ Rebels led the country in total hits, doubles and batting average. The Rebel offense scored double-digit runs in 24 games last season.

In Stolte’s six years as head coach, the Hustlin’ Rebels have a 170-156 overall record and made the Mountain West Tournament four times. 

“Thank you to the players who really bought into the program both on and off the field,” Stolte said in a statement. “They have helped us reach the level of competitiveness that we have come to expect every season as we continue to do things the right way.”

Lady Rebels will host open practice

The UNLV women’s basketball team announced an open practice and preseason carnival just a week before their season starts.

Fans can play carnival games with the Lady Rebels on Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon in front of the Thomas & Mack Center.

Free food and drinks will be provided for the first 250 in attendance. 

Following the Carnival, the Lady Rebels will have a practice open to the public at the Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels had a 26-7 overall record and a 15-3 Mountain West Conference record in the 2021-2022 season. They went on to have a postseason run which included winning the Mountain West Championship and their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2002.

In the off-season, head coach Lindy La Rocque agreed to a contract extension that will keep her in the program through the 2026-27 season.

The Lady Rebels will have an exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at home against Chico State and will have their first regular season game at home on Monday, Nov. 7 against Pepperdine.
