The Lady Rebels had its first matchup of the 2023-2024 season with an exhibition game against Cal State Los Angeles inside Cox Pavilion. The game was the first time the Lady Rebels have played in front of a crowd since its run in the previous season to the Women’s National Basketball Tournament.

The Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles entered against the Lady Rebels as they looked to improve its squad before the regular season and perhaps upset the defending Mountain West Champions.

This would not be the case. However, as the Lady Rebels defeated the Golden Eagles by a final score of 95-59, making a statement before the commencement of their regular season against Loyola Marymount on the road on Nov. 6.

The scoring was led by center Desi-Rae Young, who recorded 24 points and 13 rebounds in the contest.

However, this was not the only notable stats from the exhibition game, as Kiara Jackson and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas recorded 17 and 13 points, in 30 minutes of playing time.

Lady Rebels Head Coach Lindy La Rocque stated after the win, “This team is going to be fun to watch. You can see the score tonight; fans can expect entertaining games like this every night here.”

Rae-Young also commented on why fans should attend a game at Cox Pavilion to start the season, “This is going to be the best thing that you see here at UNLV; we are the two-time defending champs. Why not come out and show your support?”

The first regular season home game at Cox Pavillion for the Scarlet and Grey will occur on Nov. 10., at 6:30 p.m.
