Storylines of Copa America 2024

Argentina are the previous champions having won the Copa America in 2021 for Lionel Messi’s first international trophy with Argentina. Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in Brazil’s backyard of Maracana Stadium. Meanwhile for the The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) teams, Mexico is the reigning champion after defeating Panama 1-0. This Copa America in 2024 has a lot at stake as it could be the potential last tournament for many legends of the game like Di Maria and Lionel Messi. It also has pressure for Argentina to keep the title and a chance for Brazil to get revenge. This is also a great opportunity for CONCACAF teams to show what they’ve got against some of the best teams in the world. Argentina is ranked the best team in the world along with Brazil in 5th place. A lot will be at stake in this tournament so the teams will give their greatest efforts and a lot of these teams have great talent to showcase. Uruguay has recently beat both Argentina and Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers with a electrifying team managed by Marcelo Bielsa. Meanwhile the USA brings a lot of young talent along with AC Milan player Christian Pulisic ready to lead the charge. Brazil brings its incredible team of young and technical players. Argentina brings their super squad that has won the Copa America, Super Cup, and World Cup all in a span of two years with a talented team mixed with young and experienced players and have arguably the best player of all time Lionel Messi.

Up Next

Overall the Copa America is set to be a thrilling tournament where some of the best teams in the world face off and give a chance to some of the lesser known teams to put themselves on the map. This will be the second time in the history of the tournament that it will be held outside of South America after the first time also being in the US for the Copa America Centenario 2016 where Chile defeated Argentina in the final. While there still is some time left until the Copa America, it cannot come soon enough as this will mark the biggest soccer competition hosted in Las Vegas. It is bound to be an entertaining tournament and with Vegas being selected as one of the host cities.
