Things to do around campus this week

After a well-rested winter break, kick off the new spring semester with some activities around campus.

Woofs & Wellness. Calling all animal lovers! Gather in the Lied Library to start the new semester with some fuzzy friends. Therapy dogs will be joining UNLV students in the library from Pet Partners of Las Vegas and Love Dog Adventures. The event will be on Jan. 24 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lied Library.

Chromascapes: UNR MFA Exchange Show. Part of the UNLV and UNR exhibition exchange, the Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of artwork by current MFA students from the University of Nevada, Reno. The exhibition will be available to view from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Feb. 9 in the Donna Beam Gallery, Room 145.

Welcome Week Hike – Red Rock First Creek. Before the stress of the new semester eats at you, go touch some grass! Open to all students and UNLV community members, register to join a 4-mile walk across the desert valley to a side trip to a hidden waterfall. The price is $5, with lunch, transportation and any equipment provided in the cost. The hike is on Jan. 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Creek Trail in Red Rock. Register online at https://webtrac.studentrec.unlv.edu, or visit the Outdoor Adventure Rental Office at Student Recreation and Wellness Center during its office hours.

UNLV Performing Arts Center: Time for Three. On Jan. 26 from 7:30 to 10 p.m., the Grammy-winning Time For Three joins UNLV in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The two violinists and one double bassist (who can also sing) will share their unique expression of music through an intersection of classical music, Americana, and modern pop. Ticket prices vary from different tiers: $65, $45, $30 and $20. Discounted single tickets are available for students, seniors, military members, the disabled UNLV alumni, and UNLV faculty and staff. Students with a UNLV Rebelcard may also receive one $15 student rush ticket. If available, student rush tickets may be obtained one hour prior to the performance at the UNLV PAC box office. Tickets are available online or at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office.

Art Workshops for the UNLV Community. UNLV students, staff, and faculty are invited to gather in the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art to join free art-making workshops. Each workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following dates: Jan. 23: Button Workshop; Jan. 24: Crochet Workshop: Stuffed Animals; Jan. 25: Paper Dolls; Jan. 26: 2D Collages; Jan. 27: 3D Collages.

TEDxUNLV – Vision to Victory. On Jan. 27 from 12 to 8:30 p.m. gather in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall to delve into concepts under the theme ‘Vision to Victory.’ Ticket prices start at $50 and $25 discounted tickets are available to UNLV students with a valid UNLV Rebelcard. You can buy your tickets online or at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office.
