Every semester, UNLV’s Rebel Events Board (REB) hosts a variety of student events to bring members of the campus community together. This upcoming Thursday, REB is set to debut a new event called ‘Rebels Glow Crazy’ which is expected to have a large turnout given the attention that the event has received on social media.
The REB event is set to take place from 8-11 p.m. in the student union ballroom. The event will feature free food, a photo booth, a balloon drop, music, and a costume contest for the best dressed. Students have been encouraged on the REB Instagram to dress in bright colors. The event has been advertised in a number of locations on campus and has received a total of 428 likes since the writing of this article.
The Rebels Glow Crazy event is a part of REB’s Rebels After Dark series which features events for students in the evening on campus. Past Rebels After Dark events include movie nights, painting nights, and holiday-themed festivals. Last semester, the Rebels After Dark painting night recorded the largest turnout ever with 643 students in attendance, according to the Involvement Center’s Event Pass database. In comparison, the Rebels After Dark movie night in May recorded only 280 students in attendance.
REB credits part of the increased attendance at events are a byproduct of the recent funding increase from CSUN student government. In total, CSUN allocated $70,000 to REB, according to public financial records. The funding for Rebels After Dark Events falls under their special events allocation column which totals at $18,000.
“With students returning to in-person instruction on campus, we have noticed a huge increase in turn-out at all of our events,” said Luis Plascencia, evening events director with REB.
The UNLV Involvement Center currently advertises that there will be nine more REB events for the spring semester. The next upcoming Rebels After Dark event on Thursday, April 6.
