UNLV’s Men’s soccer team falls 4-2 to Fullerton at home

The UNLV Men’s soccer team fell 4-2 to Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 26.

The Rebels would take an early lead; however, the Titans would equalize and later score three more.

The Rebels were able to bring one back, but it wasn’t enough as the match finished with a final score of 4-2.

In the seventh minute, the Rebels took an early lead as a cross by Brophy Howard found Nico Lopez on the other side of the goal who headed the ball to Kai Merril for a header past goalkeeper Brandon Limes for a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead did not last long as in the 17th minute, Jonathan Grado played a deep ball to Roberto Ordonez on the left wing who dribbled past the UNLV defense into the box and played a low shot to the right post and equalizing the game 1-1.

In the 30th minute, Sulaiman Bah played a through ball to Erick Serrano who played a short pass to Fernando Valenzuela who played a low ball to Ordonez for a second goal to put the Titans up 2-1.

In the 36th minute, Theo Minard headed a corner attempt past Limes, but the ball was saved off the line by Grado and then cleared by Justin Zapata.

Eight minutes into the second half, Fitz Williams would take the ball on his half of the field and dribble past Howard before running down the right wing into the 18 yard box, leading into a Cruyff turn and striking a low rocket shot to put the Titans up 3-1.

In the 60th minute, the Rebels had a chance with a freekick by Jonah Craig, but it was saved by Limes.

In the 63rd minute, Erick Serrano played a through ball to Bah who chipped Hugo Lemos to put the Titans up 4-1.

In the 73rd minute, Abraham Gutirrez would take down Louis Hiepen for a penalty in favor of the Rebels.

On the penalty, Gabe Sanchez went to the left post, sending Limes the wrong way to give the Rebels another and set the score 2-4.

In the last play of the game, the Rebels attempted to get another goal as Merril was one-on-one with Limes, but Limes came out and denied Merril to keep the score 4-2 at full time.

The Rebels will play next at San Diego State on Oct. 3 at 8 p.m at home.
