UNLV Volleyball defeats Northern Arizona in exhibition match

UNLV volleyball finished their pre-season by sweeping the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 5-0 in straight sets as they return from an undefeated season. 

“This upcoming season is going to be huge for us,” senior Kate Brennan said. “All of us are excited to get back. We are super excited to carry on what we started last year.”

In the first set, both teams fought for dominance as the scoring bounced back and forth. The score was 8-9 when UNLV went on an 8-2 run to increase the score to 17-11. The Rebels went on to win the set 25-16.

In the beginning of the second set, both teams were scoring every possession. The game was tied 7-7 and UNLV went on a 10-3 run, making the score 17-10. However, the Lumberjacks didn’t back down. 

NAU managed to go on a 9-5 run to make the score 22-19. In the end, UNLV defeated the Lumberjacks with a score of 25-20. 

The Rebels and Lumberjacks refused to let up in the third set with a close match. UNLV came out on top for a final score of 25-19. 

During the fourth set, the score was tied 13-13, but UNLV went on a tremendous 12-1 run winning that set with the final score of 25-14.

In the fifth and final set, the Rebels won with the score being 15-8, giving them an unbeaten match victory.

Up next, UNLV will play in the Doterra classic tournament on Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. and Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Povo, Utah. The Rebel’s next home games will be at Cox Pavilion on Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. as they face Purdue University Boilermakers and Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. against the Washington State University Cougars.
