Fans lookin to attend UNLV basketball games this season at the Thomas & Mack Center will be required to show proof of their COVID-19 vaccination, UNLV Athletics announced this morning.

Information on the process for fans to provide proof of vaccination to enter the Thomas & Mack Center will be announced in the coming days. Since all fans will have to show proof of vaccination, mask are not required during games.

“We are committed to the health and safety of our Rebel community,” said UNLV Interim Director of Athletics Erick Harper said in a statement. “After much thought and reviewing all feedback, we have decided to require vaccinations to attend UNLV basketball games at the Thomas & Mack Center for this season.

“The best way to protect yourself and others from this virus is to be fully vaccinated and we encourage all to get vaccinated if they haven’t already done so. “Having a fully vaccinated audience will also allow fans to experience the games without wearing masks.”

The statement from the athletic department said that the school will continue to monitor guidelines and will adjust their policies if needed. It also stated for those who are not eligible for the vaccine must comply with state and local health guidelines in order to attend.

Earlier this semester, UNLV announced that all students must have the COVID-19 vaccine in order to register for classes in Spring of 2022. And the Nevada System of Higher Education has said all faculty must be vaccinated by Dec. 1.

The Runnin’ Rebels tip-off their 2021-2022 season on Wednesday, Nov. 10 against Gardner-Webb at 7:00 p.m.
