As a new semester begins, UNLV students may be feeling the stress as their task lists are suddenly ridden with new classes, assignments and extracurriculars. While some students are finally back to in-person instruction after nearly a year and a half, others have yet to step foot on campus.

In either case, fall semester calls for finally being able to wear cozier clothes, reacclimating to a busier schedule and finding a groove after a long summer.

Luckily, there are many study-friendly spots near campus and scattered throughout the city to help set the mood for study sessions in between classes or simply to offer a change of scenery amidst the chaos of school starting. Here are some of the best study-friendly coffee shops in town for the next time you need a change of scenery.

Located at 7960 Rainbow Blvd., La Luna is a quaint cafe in the southwest area that offers high tea services, coffee, teas, milk teas and uniquely packaged desserts, such as fluffy honey toast, puppy mouse or sea salt molten cake. The ambience makes for a relaxing study setting. They have a large moon mural brightens up the space, which is intimately lit with soft music in the background.

The Patio Dessert and Drinks is home to sweet honey toasts and a wide variety of tea and coffee drinks. It takes the patio theme literally, decorated with comfortable seating and plenty of hanging plants and indoor greenery. It stays relatively quiet, perfect for late-night study groups and is located at 5255 S. Decatur Blvd.

Founders Coffee offers two locations, one in Las Vegas and the other in Henderson. Both spots offer a colorful and eclectic atmosphere to brighten up your study sessions, decorated with funky green couches, fun llama decor and a range of seating options and tables. Check them out at either 6410 S. Durango Dr. or 3512 St. Rose Parkway.

Mothership Coffee Roasters has two locations in Henderson that aim for sustainability in their pastries and drinks and make sure you can enjoy them in a clean and crisp environment. Mothership Coffee is spacious with lots of seating and outlets. They offer a relaxing study atmosphere as well as outdoor seating. They are located at 2708 N Green Valley Parkway and 2625 Saint Rose Parkway.

What was once considered a hidden gem in Las Vegas is a well-known lounge spot now. Hiding behind a large, unmarked and almost cryptic-looking wooden door, inside Gäbi Coffee and Bakery is an aesthetically pleasing warehouse-style setting, mixed with modern and rustic decor. This is a popular spot and gets quite busy, if you are the type of person who likes to study with some background noise. The not-so-hidden gem is located at 5808 Spring Mountain Road.

Bad Owl Coffee Roasters is accented with Harry Potter-inspired decor and has a menu filled with butterbrews and other creative coffee drinks to fuel your study sessions. It is warm and inviting, yet still offers a bit of mystery in three different locations around the valley: 300 S. 4th St. Suite, 8035 S Rainbow Blvd. and 10575 S. Eastern Ave.

Savor Coffee on Eastern is a mid-century modern small hidden spot perfect for those who love the sounds of Vance Joy over the speaker and the espresso machine brewing the perfect latte. If you are someone who is tired of the same thing everyday, then Savor might be your new spot with either their Blueberry Basil Matcha Latte or the Tumeric Latte.

Thrive Coffee Company is for those who do not want to wander too far from campus, as it offers a relaxing study space right across the street from Greenspun Hall at 4700 S. Maryland Parkway. There are tables and comfortable seating, outlets, and outdoor seating. Stop by here and you are bound to see a classmate enjoying the atmosphere after a class.
