Fans are breaking records alongside their teams in an already record-breaking season for UNLV athletics.
A Tuesday night game against the University of Hawai’i at Cox Pavillion marked a significant milestone for UNLV’s women’s volleyball program.
The Scarlet and Gray celebrated their annual Polynesian Night, and, for the first time ever, the team played in front of a sold-out crowd, with a total of 3,117 people in attendance.
The number of fans in the stands broke the previous record of just 1,318 people, which was set back in the 2023 season against Utah State.
The volleyball team would put on a show for a record number of fans, as they would win 3-2 in a five-set thriller and take home the win against Hawai’i for the first time in program history.
As if the win couldn’t get any sweeter, the performance marked the fourth-consecutive season that the Scarlet and Gray have won six games through their first eight matches.
The attendance record set by the volleyball program comes a few weeks after UNLV football’s home opener in Allegiant Stadium against Utah Tech, where a record-breaking 24,512 people attended the matchup.
The crowd marked the largest turnout for a home opener since 2015 when the Rebels played against UCLA. The Rebels would give the crowd a lot to cheer about, winning by a landslide 72-14.
With the movement of the Las Vegas Raiders and the expansion of the Vegas Golden Knights, the city of Las Vegas is now seen as one of the newest sports meccas in the world, so the local crowds are also beginning to pay attention to the local athletics program.
Look for pride and interest in Rebel athletics to continue to grow as UNLV begins this season with storylines for the record books.
